Regardless of what phase we are in, maintaining a healthy and safe environment for all of our students and families is going to take work and cooperation from our staff, athletes, and parents. Similarly, we need every family to do their part to practice good hygiene, follow our policies and procedures, and be patient and supportive of our athletes and coaches during this time. This is a stressful, unprecedented, and challenging situation for all of us. It is important to remember we all share the same goal, a safe return of our children’s lives to a sense of normalcy.
The official guidance for gymnastics and indoor-youth sports programs from the government is not very detailed at this time. The USGA has been working and consulting with experts and other gym owners through every part of this pandemic. They consist of experts in the field of medicine, USA Gymnastics (our national governing body), Third Level Consulting (one of the largest consultants to the childrens activity market), Oregon Health Authority, and Lane County Public Health.
In conclusion, using these resources as well as the CDC guidelines, USGA has created a customized and comprehensive set of policies and procedures with three phases of reopening. All of which are state mandated and approved from the Governor’s office. Each color has different amounts of precaution and risk management. The Green phase will be the closest to being what the USGA was in regards to volume and variety of activity in our facility prior to the pandemic.
